FREEDOM FESTIVAL FIREWORKS AT KIRKWOOD
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – July 2, 2008 – Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival announced additional details for its Celebration of Freedom fireworks sponsored by Rockwell Collins on July 4 at Kirkwood Community College. Freedom Festival 2008 presented by Mediacom fireworks, featuring more than 415 dazzling displays, will begin at 9:45 pm, with gates opening at 7:30 pm.
The primary viewing area for patrons with lawn chairs or blankets is the Linn Hall east parking lot. Parking will be available in the Linn Hall west parking lot, as well as most other parking lots on the Kirkwood campus. In addition, remote parking with shuttle service to the viewing area will be available in the Kirkwood Transportation and Safety Training Area and at Prairie High School.
Food options include pizza and Coke products from Papa John’s Pizza; and, coolers may also be brought onto the venue. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on campus; and, no open flame or charcoal grilling equipment is permitted.
No personal fireworks or pets are permitted on the venue. In addition, patrons are reminded that the entire Kirkwood campus is tobacco-free.
Free glow sticks will be presented, while quantities last, to Freedom Festival button wearers and to donors to the Flood Relief Fund kettle on-site.
Free music entertainment by Enoch Smoky featuring Dickie Douglas, Billy Lee Janey, Eric Douglas and Dan Johnson will be provided for individuals waiting to view the fireworks. Music accompanying the fireworks display will be broadcast by KDAT, KHAK and KMRY radio stations. Fireworks patrons are encouraged to bring along a portable radio to tune to one of these stations to further enhance their enjoyment of the fireworks.
